Discovering new wineries is always a joy for me. I remember many years ago sitting on a conference call with people from all over the U.S. One of those people was from Minnesota, and we somehow got onto the topic of wine. When I mentioned I was from Oregon, her enthusiasm was contagious. She raved about a winery called Natalie’s Estate (@nataliesestatewinery) and how much she loved their cabs. I was intrigued, immediately signed up for their newsletter, and have been following them ever since.
Last month, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Boyd Teegarden, the winemaker, and Jeff Granger, the assistant winemaker, for an amazing chat on the podcast. In the valley, it’s rare to find producers releasing Cabs, Zin, Barbera, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Malbec, along with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Natalie’s Estate is celebrating 25 years, and it was truly an honor to sit down with Boyd and Jeff!
As always, I bring a blind wine to the podcast. I didn’t have a strong connection, but a Cab Franc from Lundeen Wines felt appropriate on so many levels. You don’t hear about Cab Franc much in Oregon. It’s not often that I get both a head winemaker and an assistant winemaker on the podcast. Are you curious what they guessed? What they had to say about the wine?
