Tasting Notes

Here we are, the first day of 2023, a chance for new beginnings and to embark on journeys we didn’t dare to even think about last year. So many rabbit holes to explore, leaving only one question, “Why aren’t there more hours in a day and days in a year?” The First Edition Brut X Sparkling Wine from Soter is the perfect example of new beginnings. Last January, I read the story of Tony Soter approaching winemaker Chris Fladwood one day to make a reserve Sparkling Wine. Tony was a little surprised to find out Chris already had reserve wines put back. Luckily, Tony green-lighted the project, and I have the pleasure of enjoying one heck of a wine. There is no indication of the percentage of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on the label. My guess was 60% Pinot and 40% Chardonnay which was close. The First Edition has 70% Pinot and 30% Chard. It also has 60% of 2017 and 40% Reserve. The main reason I mention this wine on the first day of the year is to call out the next evolution of Oregon Sparkling. We will start seeing more Oregon Sparkling over the next couple of years. We will also begin to see bottlings mimicking Champagne to bring consistency regardless of what Mother Nature throws our way. My impression of this wine is stellar! For $65, you get a complex, fun wine with tiny bubbles lasting for hours in the glass. A grippy acidity on the mid-palate intertwined with the tartness of Pinot Noir softened by Chardonnay and a finish leaving you with a thirst for only one thing, more!p 👇 👇 👇 👇 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 Would you like to get a Saturday morning email to read with your coffee giving you insider tips on events, news, and an in-depth perspective on a winery?
