Tasting Notes
Today was a full day of working on the back deck. Summertime is the best! I adore being outside all day, and there’s nothing like opening a great bottle of wine at the end of it.
Tonight’s wine is more than a little different, and it makes me so happy! The 2022 La Petite Fete from Walnut Ridge (@walnutridgevineyard) is a wine you need to put on your radar. It’s a unique blend of 50% Pinot Gris, 25% Pinot Blanc, and 25% Riesling. Have you ever heard of such a blend? I sure hadn’t!
Before I try to describe this little gem, have you heard of Walnut Ridge? It’s a hidden gem I was invited to last summer. Aaron and Alisha, the owners, are incredibly down-to-earth, and I’ve run into them multiple times in wine country. The winemaker, Andrew Smith, previously made wine at Antiquum. If you’re not familiar with Antiquum, we should definitely talk.
Now, about the wine: In the glass, it’s nice and light in color. On the nose, there are hints of stone fruit from the Riesling, which carry over to the entry. On the mid-palate, the stone fruit transitions to familiar Pinot Gris flavors but softened by the Pinot Blanc. The finish is smooth and pleasant all the way through. This is one enjoyable wine, and a big thank you to Aaron for pouring this for me earlier this year!
