Tasting Notes

We are just a few days away from some fantastic springtime weather and Holy Toledo. I can’t wait! I want to be outside as much as possible this weekend to soak it all up. I hope you do the same. Over the past few days, you have gotten to Daniel and Susan from Lonesome Rock, along with their story. It’s time to dive into their wine. Last year, their 2021 Pinot Noir was one of my highlight wines. I have one bottle in the cellar and am waiting to revisit it in 10 years. The 2021 Chardonnay made by Jackson Holstein was superb! Opening up the 2022 Lonesome Rock Pinot Noir, I was eager beyond belief for several reasons. One was the anticipation after the 2021 vintage, and the other was to start exploring Oregon’s 2022 vintage. 2022 started with widespread frost, where secondary shoots produced extra fruit for many producers. The vintage also extended well into mid-October, allowing longer-than-normal hang times. This wine is showing off exceptionally well! On the entry, it reminds me of the 2021 Pinot Noir, but on the mid-palate, you detect a difference. There is a beautifully wrapped package of acidity, tannins, and big dark fruit. I adore what is here in the glass, and pairing this with some pasta brought me to my knees. If you haven’t heard of Lonesome Rock, put this winery on your radar! If you have heard of Lonesome Rock (@lonesomerock), it is time to make a trip a little past Carlton for a visit. I promise you it will be amazing! 👇 👇 👇 👇 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 Would you like to get a Saturday morning email once a month to read with your coffee giving you insider tips on events, news, and an in-depth perspective on a winery?
