Tasting Notes
After my interview with Kate Ayres from Penner-Ash, I had the opportunity to indulge in a couple of wines. One of the wines that stood out was the 2021 Penner-Ash Yamhill-Carlton Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir. During our conversation, I mentioned the challenge of stepping into Lynn Penner-Ash's shoes. Kate's response was heartwarming, as she expressed her admiration for Lynn and how she guided her through the journey. The bond between Lynn and Kate is truly incredible, and it is evident in the quality of this wine.
The aroma of this wine is delightful, with subtle notes of strawberry. The initial taste is smooth and gradually reveals an extraordinary burst of fruit on the mid-palate. The fruitiness is perfectly balanced with the acidity and tannin, creating a seamless integration of flavors. I am particularly impressed with the finish of this wine. The fruit flavors unfold rapidly, much like a time-lapse video of a blooming spring flower. I can envision a summer gathering where friends gather around, savoring this bottle, and all conversations come to a halt as someone in the group exclaims, "Wow, this is absolutely incredible!"
