Tasting Notes

Tonight is a bit of an anomaly with two bottles of wine. Mac and Sid, the brothers of King’s North @kingsnorthwine, work their patootski off to make delicious wine and provide a kind, down-to-earth tasting for everyone starting with Champagne or Cremant. After waking up your palate, the stories and education they provide presenting their wines is next-level authenticity! Then, once your mind is blown, they offer you coffee and chocolate. How can you not fall head over heels for these guys? We all lived through the negativity of 2020 with next to no positivity. So maybe I can bring shed some brightness on the subject. Mac and Sid picked their Pinot just off of Bell Road in Newberg just before the fires, and let me tell you, this is one heck of a Pinot. It is a bit darker in the glass, with spicy dark fruit on the nose, smooth velvety entry showcasing the darker fruits on the mid-palate to a long pleasant finish with the slightest of tannin. Unfortunately, you will not find many wineries who picked before the 2020 fires. The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is from Alder Ridge Vineyard, located in Prosser, Washington. It’s about a 4-hour drive from Newberg, a little bit west of Kennewick and south of Yakima. My initial reaction to a 2-year-old Cab is, “It’s too young, and I wouldn’t touch it.” But, I trust what Mac and Sid do in the vineyard and in the winery. That trust extends to my words tonight. This Cab is not typical. Yes, in the glass, there are all the classic dark purple colors. On the nose, the traditional characteristics continue, but not in a slap you in the face Cab kind of manner. Instead, everything about this Cab is gentle and smooth. Even on entry, it effortlessly glides to your mid-palate, showing off the deep dark fruits with zero pucker factor. And the finish is something you can savor watching the sunset on a hot August evening. If you have not been to King’s North, do it, do it now! I promise you will not be disappointed! . . 📰 Getting more email sucks. I get it! If you are open to getting one more email on Saturday about the people behind wine, there is a link in the bio to sign up for my weekly newsletter.
