Tasting Notes

The other day I was listening to something. It was probably a podcast, but I am not 100% certain. The topic of Pinot fatigue came up. Unfortunately, this is a real thing. There are times I don’t want a Pinot at all. The last two sentences make me sound pretentious, and I do realize how incredibly fortunate I am to whine about having too much Pinot. When I am faced with a decision to pick something outside of Pinot land, I tend to gravitate towards a Chard. However, there are times when I am like, nope, I am not in a white mood. The next logical choice is Sparkling, and I always have to ask myself, “Are you going to like yourself in the morning for drinking a whole bottle?” It sounds awful, but somehow Sparkling disappears way too quickly around here. Does anyone else have this issue? When I get to this point in the decision tree, I start looking at bigger reds, and last night the 2019 Bledsoe Family Cab spoke to me. Usually, a 2019 Cab is way too young even to contemplate opening a few years later, but the tannins on this are surprisingly integrated. As with most Cabs, you get that deep dark red in the glass, intense dark fruit on the nose that wakes up your mid-palate and slowly tapers off on the finish. A blend of 75% Cab Sauv, 13% Merlot, 11% Malbec, and 1% Cab Franc makes complete sense how this is drinkable now and can go the distance in the cellar. What got me about this last night was the aroma intensity of Spring and the wine intertwined while I was grilling a ribeye. . . . . 📰 Want to know more about Oregon Wine and Wineries sign up for my weekly newsletter.
