Tasting Notes
The weekend has started, and time to put the feet up and take some time to reflect on the past week. For myself, there are zero complaints except for wanting a few more hours in the day and some warmer temperatures to go bike riding. Life is pretty darn good!
Tonight’s wine is the 2018 Elevee Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir
2018 is known for being a hot vintage and usually tasting an Oregon 2018 Pinot Noir, you get bigger, bolder fruits along with tannins making your mouth pucker and wishing you had some fatty protein. But I swear Tom is a magician! His 2018 Pinot Noir from the Elevee Vineyard, aka Estate Vineyard, breaks all of the rules for 2018.
Even on the nose, this wine doesn’t fit the typical characteristics of an 18. Instead, there are hints of earth on the nose (not barnyard funk). The entry and mid-palate bring forth an integrated pleasure of smooth, silky darker fruit, but not super dark fruit giving way to a finish of delightment with the slightest twinge of tannin. This wine could easily go another ten years!
