Tasting Notes
Over the weirdly hot weekend, I couldn’t help but pop the cork on some Bubbles to enjoy a little liquid relaxation intermingled with a one-of-a-kind Oregon Sparkling—the 2016 Left Coast Brut Rose of Pinot Meunier. I am unaware of another Oregon producer with a 100% Pinot Meunier Sparkling and for a 7-year-old Sparkling, oh me, oh my, this was great!
Typically, Pinot Meunier is used in Champagne in conjunction with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and possibly a blend of all three. I adore the punch Meunier brings to a blend, and to only have Meunier is quite the treat! I didn’t write any specific notes about this wine, but let me tell you, it hit the spot. Unfortunately, there isn’t much Meunier planted in Oregon, and for Sparklings' sake, I hope to see more!
BTW, have you visited Left Coast? You need to visit, and I have just the perfect day for you to go! Coming up on June 3rd is Taste the Corridor, where you can taste a boatload of wines and vineyards inside the Van Duzer Corridor. A little birdy told me there will be a great turnout. Visit Left Coast’s IG (@leftcoastwine) page to follow, and I also have a link in the bio to the event!
