Tasting Notes
The sheer thought of an end-of-year top ten list makes my skin crawl, but the reality of the situation is we are starting to wind down for the year, boo! The end of the year conversation started when I popped the cork on the 2016 Antiquum Vineyard Pinot Noir from Harper Voit. The exact thought was, “Dagnabbit, this wine is one of my favorites this year!”
I first tasted this last summer sitting across the table from Drew Voit, I featured it at my Wine Dinner in April, and last night I wanted something that spoke volumes to me. Side note, there might be another Wine Dinner in the Fall. Maybe………..
Anyway, this wine spoke volumes to me again when I first opened it last night, and today it is still grabbing me on so many levels. What I enjoy the most about this wine is how the mid-palate is a complexity of spice and dark fruit intermingled with a heavy body of pleasure, giving weight to the experience. It doesn’t stop there, though. The acidity and tannin structure (not grippy) are well in place six years later, delivering smiles for many years to come!
Before you visit Harper Voit in Mac, give me some time to stock up on the 2016 Antiquum Pinot. I need more before it's sold out.
